21/12/09 The Samson Centre Christmas Fayre 2009

A large number of volunteers once again contributed their time and energy to stage this annual event at the Milford Village Hall, which this year took place on Saturday 28th November. Thanks to their hard work, not to mention the generosity of all those who attended it, the Fayre was a great success. Here’s how MSTG(G) Trustee Graham Jelley remembers the day:

"We were again fortunate this year in being able to access Milford Village Hall the evening before the day of the Fayre to set everything up. In no time at all MSTG(G) Vice-Chairman Jim Fardell’s plan for the layout of the hall had taken shape, and Helen Brodbin was arranging prizes for the Raffle, Tombola and Gift stalls with her usual efficiency. Helen? I thought she had retired! Well, luckily for us, not quite!

The entrance was decked with lights and a Christmas tree and soon we were ready for the grand opening the next day.

On Saturday morning, keen buyers had arrived long before our advertised opening time but thankfully John Hambly was on hand in the entrance to control the crowds! Father Christmas was seen riding his four-wheel mobility sleigh through the sunshine in Milford and arrived just in time. Soon the hall was buzzing! Claire (see picture) and Mike (the tallest elf in the world), both resplendent in their green and red tunics, did a fine job helping Santa.

In addition to the Raffle, Tombola and Gifts, other stalls included Books and DVDs, Bric-A-Brac, Greetings Cards, Jewellery and of course Cakes and Christmas Puddings! The MS Society also had a well-stocked stall, and their support for us was much appreciated.

The Tea Room provided refreshments, and the Tombola became increasingly popular as favoured prizes remained! The Raffle was drawn in the afternoon and many of the winners were still in the hall to collect their prizes.

Our thanks go to everyone who donated items for the many stalls, helped on the day and dug deep into their pockets, all of which resulted in a very enjoyable and successful MSTG(G) Christmas Fayre."

I can only echo Graham’s sentiments – many thanks for the report.
