Archived Events – Multiple Sclerosis Therapy and Support in Surrey
ON SATURDAY 22ND JUNE
AT FOLDSDOWN COTTAGE, DYE HOUSE ROAD, THURSLEY, GU8 6QD
FROM 10AM TO 3PM
The Samson Centre provides practical and emotional support for people living with Multiple Sclerosis living in Surrey and surrounding areas. They receive no funding from the NHS or the MS Society.
MS is a debilitating disease which attacks the central nervous system. It is both permanent and progressive – there is no known cure. It is the most common neurological condition among young adults today.
The Samson Centre offers people with MS support in Surrey, enabling them to remain as active as possible by providing them with the physiotherapy, exercise and oxygen therapy they need in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Do come along to support this worthwhile cause. Items for sale will range from a computer, a leather reclining chair and stool and household goods to childrens and adult clothes, books, plants etc.
If you have items you would like to donate which are suitable to sell, do bring them along before the 22nd June. Any queries please contact Nicki Bates on 01252 702671 or

You might have guessed it! The Samson Charity Golf Day is now open for entries. Our annual golf day is taking place on Monday, 20th May 2019, at Puttenham Golf Club in Surrey.
This promises to be another excellent day of golf, starting at 11am with coffee and bacon rolls and ending with a two course dinner. And in between 18 holes of golf on a picturesque Surrey course nestling in the foothills of the Hogs Back.
Even if you don’t play golf please feel free to pass our Golf Day details to friends, family members or colleagues who do like a game. Whether they work at their golf or simply take part for recreation they will be playing for all our members at the Samson Centre.
The Rotary Annual Charity Walk on the 19th May provides local charities with the opportunity of taking advantage of a fundraising event without the overhead of organising it. This year we will be taking a different approach and instead of holding our Xmas Fair over in Milford, we will be having a mini Xmas Fair at the Centre on 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 Dec from 10am – 12:30pm.
We hope that by doing it this way, many more of our members and carers will be able to buy some lovely goodies at the Centre. A great opportunity to get involved in this while you are at the Centre w/c 4 Dec.
For those of you who like to make jams and chutneys, please reserve some for us to sell at the Xmas Fair. Also, please start putting aside bottles only for our tombola – we will need lots of them! Alcoholic and non alcoholic bottles all very welcome.
Please note that the Shalford Christmas Fair takes place on Sat 18 Nov 2017.
We are lucky enough to be one of the charities that is being supported by this Fair as we were last year.

It is renowned in this area for being a very good Christmas Fair.

Located between Sunbury on Thames and Staines upon Thames, Join us for a day of golf while helping us to raise funds for a local charity commited to helping people living with Multiple Sclerosis in Surrey and surrounding areas
We have a wonderful event to enjoy, to share with friends and which will raise valuable funds for our Centre the ‘Summer Marquee Buffet Luncheon’. Complete with guest speaker David Ford, Art & Antiques Valuer and of Dickinson’s Real Deal and Secret Dealers, who will give an interesting talk and also undertake some valuations. It promises to be a fun and interesting occasion, all served up with a delicious buffet and some wine (or non alcoholic refreshment if preferred).
There will be reserved parking close to the marquee for wheelchair users or those unable to walk too far. The marquee itself will be on a grassed area which could be uneven, but there are no actual slopes to contend with. If it has been wet the grass could prove more difficult for access for people using heavy, motorised wheelchairs but we do hope for a flaming June! We will have a strong and willing volunteer on hand to assist, if this is the case.
If you would like to purchase tickets they are available from the Tourist Information Centre by phone, online and drop-in, or alternatively from Jackie in the office at the Centre.
I would ask everyone to assist in promoting this event if you can by distributing the flyer to friends and family who you think could be interested either by forwarding this email or by handing out hard copies, which will available week beginning 15th May, at the Centre.
Please note that as the marquee is in the grounds of a private home there will unfortunately be no disabled toilet facilities available on this occasion.
If anyone has any questions or would like more details about this event please contact Denice by email or by phone on 07751 667645.

Most of us know and love John Hambly and appreciate what he has achieved in helping to make the Samson Centre for MS what it is today. Some of those people are his beloved Rugby friends who themselves have raised many tens of thousands of pounds for the Centre.
You will probably remember a few years back their famous ‘Thames River Challenge’. Well, they are up to their old tricks again and ready for a new challenge. This time they are taking on 80 miles of the Caledonian Canal in Scotland. Joking aside, they do give up many hours to train and put much effort into fundraising and I am sure the challenge itself doesn’t come easily either.
To show how much we appreciate their efforts we are aiming to join them along their way by running the Samson Caledonian Canoe Challenge at the Samson Centre which Sara has kindly agreed to support. To this end we are hoping to encourage members, staff and volunteers to take part in our own event to assist in the fundraising. Whilst the ‘16 Idiots’, as they like to be known, will be facing both calm and rough, open waters, our own Samson Caledonian Challenge will take place safely on dry land and take the normal format of cycling, rowing or walking etc – unless anyone would like to opt to go out onto the river!
On a serious note, the ‘16 Idiots’ have a goal of raising £20,000 for the Samson Centre in May, and I think that they would really appreciate any help that we can offer in promoting their venture. Please pick up a few Caledonian Challenge “business cards” when you are next at the Centre to spread the word about how to support their fundraising efforts.
They care, we care and we all work together to support the efforts of the Samson Centre to make a difference to so many lives.
If you are interested (or any friends or family) in taking part in the active Samson Centre Caledonian Challenge, I will have details available shortly. If anyone would like help on how to promote this event to friends and family please just ask me.
In the meantime, if you would like support the team or just visit the Just Giving page to see how the campaign is progressing – simply Click on this Link
