The Group relies on a number of volunteers to help keep things running smoothly, both at the Samson Centre and elsewhere. Here are just some of them:

Sue and John Steeds
Sue’s MS was diagnosed in 1974. She is a flautist and has a degree in Music from Edinburgh University. She worked for many years in the record industry. When her MS was diagnosed Sue and John were newly married and they were advised to have a family and get on with life. This they did and now have two wonderful adult children. Sue was a school governor and became a peripatetic flute teacher.
Sue joined the MSTG in 1994, was on the Committee from 1995 to 2003 and was Vice-Chairman from 1997 to 2001. John is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He worked for 30 years in transportation, mainly in the design of highway structures. In 2001 he took early retirement to become Sue’s full time carer, and now says he needs to go back to work for a rest!

Gilly Denyer
Gilly’s association with the Samson Centre came about through her long friendship with Helen Brodbin, the Samson Centre’s former Lead Physiotherapist – their two boys were at school together.
Gilly is only too familiar with MS: her sister had it, and helping out at the Samson Centre is her way of offering the sort of assistance that geographical separation prevented in her sister’s case.

Enid Weston
Born and educated in Kent, Enid became a volunteer with the MSTG(G) some years ago, when the group still met at Shalford Village Hall. She can be now found helping out in the kitchen and elsewhere in the Samson Centre on Monday mornings.
Previously a teacher, Enid is enjoying her retirement and is an active member of the Guildford RSPB group. |

Carol Kitching
Carol has been involved with the Waterside Centre for more than 20 years – firstly when both her children and her husband joined the Wey Kayak Club, and lately as Secretary of the new Centre building.
She joined the MSTG(G) in 2006, and originally shared the office administration with Ruth Elliott, until the latter joined the committee.
She has now stepped down from the office job, but continues to do a sterling job as a volunteer. |
