Overview

 The Samson Centre

To maintain and extend the Centre we need your much appreciated donations. There are a number of ways in which to help us raise the funds we need to maintain the facilities we provide to people with M.S. in South West Surrey, and these are described below. You can also use the links in the sidebar to the left of this text to navigate directly to the area of interest.

Direct donation

You can donate directly to the Samson Centre by contacting us via one of the methods listed below.

Online donation

Alternatively, you can donate online: just visit our area of the www.justgiving.com site, which is a secure payment site which handles all our online donations. As part of this service we do have to pay a small handling charge to justgiving.com.

Gift Aid

If you are a UK taxpayer, the Samson Centre can reclaim tax under the Inland Revenue Gift Aid scheme. Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, the centre will get an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue. For example, a gift of £10 from a UK taxpayer will be turned into £12.80. Imagine what a difference that makes – and it doesn’t cost you a thing!

Sponsored events

Ever fancying trying your hand at hang-gliding? Perhaps you've always wanted to run the London Marathon, or take part in a sponsored parachute jump……or perhaps your idea of a great time is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in a good cause.

Whatever the event that appeals to you, the MSTG(G) is always grateful to, and appreciative of, people who take part in fundraising events in aid of the Samson Centre.

And collecting the money couldn’t be easier, thanks to the Justgiving website (see above). There is even a step-by-step guide to setting up your own Justgiving page, tailored to raising money online for the Samson Centre. Once you’ve decided on your fundraising event, just click on this link, follow the simple instructions, and you could be helping raise money for the Centre in no time!

Everyclick logo

Samson supporters who have access to the Internet may be interested to know about everyclick, a website and Internet search engine.

Like Google or AskJeeves, everyclick allows you to look up any type of information on the internet. However, its big selling point is that 50% of its revenue is given to charities nominated by the people who use it. It’s a very simple idea – every time you use everyclick to perform a search, you earn money for your nominated charity. Like all search engines, it’s completely free to use, and it doesn’t cost the charities who benefit a penny, either.

So, what’s the catch?

Well, for a start, it’s not going to earn the MSTG(G) a fortune – several thousand searches must be performed to raise even £20. Secondly, and this is even more important, the amount earned for each charity depends on how active each supporter (defined as someone who has registered as a user with everyclick and nominated a charity) is. For example, if a charity has one supporter who performs 100 searches, it will earn twice as much as another charity with two supporters, one of whom performs 99 searches and the other 1 search. The bottom line is that registering as a supporter and then not using everyclick will actually reduce the amount the MSTG(G) will receive – i.e. if you’re not prepared to use everyclick instead of your current search engine, please don’t register!

If you are happy to use everyclick (it’s a perfectly adequate search engine), go to www.everyclick.com to register, and nominate "Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Group (Guildford)" as your chosen charity. It may not generate much income for the Group, but every little helps!

Online shopping

TheGivingMachine logo

Hot on the heels of everyclick comes another way of effortlessly raising funds for the Samson Centre – as long as you use the Internet to do some of your shopping.

TheGivingMachine is a very simple idea: every time you shop online, instead of going directly to the retailer’s website, you first log on to TheGivingMachine and then choose the retailer. By doing this, the retailer will pay TheGivingMachine a commission (for what is known as "click-through" custom), 75% of which TheGivingMachine pays to your nominated charity. The other 25% is retained by TheGivingMachine to cover its costs.

So, what’s the catch this time?

Well, like everyclick, it’s not going to earn the MSTG(G) a fortune – but remember that as the shopper it costs you nothing, beyond the time to perform a one-off registration with the site and then to perform a couple of extra clicks to get to your favourite online retailers each time you shop.

In addition, it only works with those retailers that have signed up to the scheme. However, they include some pretty big names, such as Asda, Tesco, eBay, Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Dorothy Perkins, Next, Ryman, Bose, iTunes, to name but a few – and more companies are signing up all the time.

So why not log on to www.thegivingmachine.co.uk and take a look for yourself? If you’re happy with the idea, register as a shopper, nominate the M.S. Therapy Group (Guildford) as your chosen charity, and start earning money for the Samson Centre every time you shop online!

Sell your old mobile phone

Envirocharities logo

Are you about to replace your old mobile phone? Instead of giving it away, make money for yourself and the Samson Centre by selling it via enviroCharities. This simple scheme allows you to sell your old phone for anything up to £180 (depending on model and condition). For each such sale, enviroCharities will automatically make a donation of £3.00 to the Samson Centre.

The value of each of the various manufacturers' phones is listed on the enviroCharities website, so you know exactly what you will receive for your old phone. Alternatively, you can elect to donate a percentage of the value you receive, in increments of 10% up to 100%, to the Samson Centre, to add to the £3.00 donated by enviroCharities for each sale.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, log on to www.samsoncentre.envirocharities.com and see how it works. Registration and use of the scheme is totally free.
